Today, the Citadelle La Ferriere in Milot is a site of a World Heritage Site and there is plenty of information in the strength to go through the long travel and making it up. Tourists should have guides and mules of the mountain on foot, because it is the only way meaningful exploration of the fortress. You can go right to the roof of the magnificent Citadel.
